People begin counseling because they want changes in their lives. You may want change but don’t know where to start, or you are being blocked by something – anxiety, guilt, sadness (or even other people). You may have been trying to make changes but have slipped back into old problematic patterns. On the other hand, you may not be sure you are ready for change, but do know that you are unhappy right now. I believe all of these are good places for us to start.
My approach is based on the concept of psychological flexibility: the ability to directly encounter situations, and to proceed through life based on your values. Our work will be guided by your heart’s deepest desires of how you want to live your life. Together we can clarify these values and help you move into action. My goal in counseling is not simply to help you with the immediate problem, but to set you up to handle issues with flexibility in the future.
